Do you want to make a difference but can’t commit to weekly tutoring? We’ve got you covered. Healthy Cities Tutoring now offers exciting, flexible ways for responsible, service-minded high school students to support our mission — on your schedule.
Whether you’re a photo pro, a social media creative, or a leader at your school, these roles let you build real-world skills, earn service hours, and strengthen your community. No tutoring experience required — just bring your passion!

NOTE: Even if you’re not able to commit to tutoring, you must signup as a volunteer tutor first before being able to join one of these teams.
📸 Photography Team
(Most active: Late September to January – Peak Tutoring & Event Photography)
Volunteers Needed: 4–5
What You’ll Do:
Capture the heart of tutoring in action. You’ll visit schools and libraries in San Carlos and Redwood City during weekday afternoons (2:30–5:00 PM, Mon–Thurs) to photograph tutoring sessions and events. Your photos will be featured on social media, the HCT website, flyers, the Annual Report, and more.
Responsibilities:
- Visit 3–4 sites per month (flexible schedule)
- Submit your photos and quick site reports via a Google Form
- Coordinate with HCT staff and the Communications Team
- Attend teen volunteer and photography-specific training
- Follow a monthly shoot schedule/calendar
- Provide your own transportation to sites
- Earn service hours for every contribution!
You’ll Build Skills In:
Photography, visual storytelling, content curation, working independently.
đź’¬ Communications Team
(Active Throughout the School Year)
Volunteers Needed: 4–5
What You’ll Do:
Be the voice of HCT online and in your school! Help manage Instagram and Facebook channels, contribute to newsletters, and promote club activities and student success stories.
Social Media Volunteers:
- Coordinate your high school’s HCT Club Instagram (Carlmont, Sequoia, or Woodside)
- Join HCT’s main social media team (2–3 volunteers needed)
- Create posts using Canva and team photos
- Share tips, event recaps, recruitment news, and more
- Follow the HCT editorial calendar
- Attend training for teen volunteers and social media team members
Communications Volunteers:
- Submit blurbs for your high school newsletter
- Help write “Teen Tutor Corner” updates for the HCT monthly newsletter
- Promote special events, milestones, and success stories
- Attend communications-specific training
You’ll Build Skills In:
Marketing, design, writing, storytelling, Canva, content planning, and digital communication.
🏫 High School Club Leaders
(Ongoing Leadership Role)
What You’ll Do:
Lead your school’s HCT Tutoring Club and help build a strong peer network of volunteers. You’ll run monthly meetings, support your classmates as tutors, and coordinate with HCT staff to promote opportunities and share updates.
Responsibilities:
- Host a table at Club Day to recruit members
- Lead monthly meetings and submit quick meeting reports
- Share tips, answer questions, and support new volunteers
- Coordinate with HCT staff for presentations and support
- Participate in a fall kickoff session with fellow leaders
- Must be a current HCT tutor in good standing
You’ll Build Skills In:
Leadership, communication, event planning, peer mentoring, club management.
