Because of your generous contributions, we are thrilled to announce that we raised a total of $20,522. With the $20,000 match from a long-time supporter which doubled your good, the GRAND TOTAL for “Give Where You Live” is $40,522!

The success of this giving day, will enable Healthy Cities Tutoring to deepen our impact in our community and allow us to grow and match more students who struggle in school with a caring tutor. Thank you for your meaningful investment in our program and for sharing in this remarkable day!

Math support workshop on March 7

  • Where: Central Middle School library, 757 Cedar Street, San Carlos

Elementary and middle school teachers Krista Carroll and Hillary Wiessinger will lead our discussion about resources, tools and strategies for teaching math. They will answer questions about the common core math curriculum and any other challenges you may face as you guide your student through their math studies. We hope you will take advantage of this opportunity to boost your skills and increase your confidence to support your student with their math work.

IN ADDITION, WE ARE OFFERING A TUTOR INFORMATION SESSION for anyone interested in becoming a volunteer with Healthy Cities Tutoring. This session precedes the math training and is being held from 6:15-7:00 pm, also at Central Middle School.

“Tutor Tips” Workshop on February 7

Each February we offer an informal training session to share our successes and concerns working with students. Maybe you want help figuring out how to reach a reluctant learner? Maybe you wonder how to approach a particular subject? Maybe you have some great ideas for others to use to make their sessions more interesting? Whatever your question, we hope you will join us for this year’s “Tutor Tips!”

The workshop will be led by Heather School teacher, Lynn Dames. Lynn has taught 3rd, 5th and 7th graders; she is the perfect person to address questions about working with students across a wide range of grade levels. She will share math games to help your students practice basic facts and strategies to help the reluctant writer and many more aspects of tutoring.

We guarantee you will come away with some new ideas. We hope to see you on February 7th!
